Isaiah 55.6-7

Hymn

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing (Hymn #457)

Confession of SIN

Most Holy God,
We confess before you our haughtiness,
as we look at the sin of others.
We confess our arrogance in thinking
ourselves better than those around us.
We confess that we murder with our tongues.
We confess that we have made stealing an art,
withholding what you call us to give in our offerings,
begrudging words of kindness and acts of love,
and failing to use the time that is given us.
Lord, have mercy. Christ have mercy.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Hebrews 9.27–28

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

HYMN

O Lord, My Rock and My Redeemer

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Greatest treasure of my longing soul
My God, like You there is no other
True delight is found in You alone

Your grace, a well too deep to fathom
Your love exceeds the heaven's reach
Your truth, a fount of perfect wisdom
My highest good and my unending need

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Strong defender of my weary heart
My sword to fight the cruel deceiver
And my shield against his hateful darts

My song, when enemies surround me
My hope, when tides of sorrow rise
My joy, when trials are abounding
Your faithfulness, my refuge in the night

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Gracious Savior of my ruined life
My guilt and cross laid on Your shoulders
In my place You suffered bled and died

You rose, the grave and death are conquered
You broke my bonds of sin and shame
You rose, the grave and death are conquered
You broke my bonds of sin and shame

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
May all my days bring glory to Your Name
May all my days bring glory to Your Name

CONFESSION OF FAITH

Heidelberg Catechism – Lord’s Day 16

40. Q. Why was it necessary for Christ to humble himself even unto death?
A. Because of the justice and truth of God satisfaction for our sins could be made in no other way than by the death of the Son of God.

41. Q. Why was he buried?
A. His burial testified that he had really died.

42. Q. Since Christ has died for us, why do we still have to die?
A. Our death is not a payment for our sins, but it puts an end to sin and is an entrance into eternal life.

HYMN

Christ Our Hope in Life and Death

What is our hope in life and death?
Christ alone, Christ alone
What is our only confidence?
That our souls to Him belong

Who holds our days within His hand?
What comes, apart from His command?
And what will keep us to the end?
The love of Christ, in which we stand

Chorus:
O sing hallelujah!
Our hope springs eternal
O sing hallelujah!
Now and ever we confess
Christ our hope in life and death

What truth can calm the troubled soul?
God is good, God is good
Where is His grace and goodness known?
In our great Redeemer's blood

Who holds our faith when fears arise?
Who stands above the stormy trial?
Who sends the waves that bring us nigh?
Unto the shore, the rock of Christ?

Chorus

Unto the grave, what will we sing?
"Christ, He lives; Christ, He lives!"
And what reward will heaven bring?
Everlasting life with Him

There we will rise to meet the Lord
Then sin and death will be destroyed
And we will feast in endless joy
When Christ is ours forevermore

Chorus (2x)

Now and ever we confess
Christ our hope in life and death

We Will Feast in the House of Zion

Chorus:
We will feast in the house of Zion
We will sing with our hearts restored
He has done great things,
we will say together
We will feast and weep no more

We will not be burned by the fire
He is the LORD our God
We are not consumed, by the flood
Upheld, protected, gathered up

Chorus

In the dark of night, before the dawn
My soul, be not afraid
For the promised morning,
oh how long?
Oh God of Jacob, be my strength

Chorus

Every vow we’ve broken and betrayed
You are the Faithful one
And from the garden to the grave
Bind us together, bring shalom.

Chorus 2x

Hymn

On Jordan’s Stormy Banks

On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand, and cast a wishful eye
To Canaan’s fair and happy land, where my possessions lie.
All o’er those wide extended plains, shines one eternal day
There God, the Son forever reigns,
and scatters night away.

I am bound (women echo),
I am bound (women echo),
I am bound for the promised land.

I am bound (women echo),
I am bound (women echo),
I am bound for the promised land.

No chilling winds nor poisonous breath,
can reach that healthful shore,
Sickness, sorrow, pain and death,
are felt and feared no more.

I am bound (women echo),
I am bound (women echo),
I am bound for the promised land.

I am bound (women echo),
I am bound (women echo),
I am bound for the promised land.

When shall I reach that happy place, and be forever blest
When shall I see my Father’s face,
and in his bosom rest.

I am bound (women echo),
I am bound (women echo),
I am bound for the promised land.

I am bound (women echo),
I am bound (women echo),
I am bound for the promised land.  (repeat)
